SPIDERS AND EVOLUTION
Join Jeremy Wilson, WA Museum Curator of Arachnids and Myriapods, for a journey into the hidden world of Australia’s trapdoor spiders, uncovering the remarkable, eight-legged stories beneath our feet.
Trapdoor spiders are among Australia’s most ancient and diverse animal groups, yet most people will never see one. Hidden beneath our feet, they construct intricate burrows, can live for decades, and may spend their entire lives within a remarkably small patch of country. Jeremy will explore why Western Australia is a global hotspot for trapdoor-spider diversity, how ancient landscapes have produced species found nowhere else on Earth, and why some are restricted to areas no larger than an isolated patch of bushland.
