The Lawson Common Room: where sharp minds and generous spirits meet—part fireside chat, part professional detour. Each month, we explore the many ways people find themselves in the law… and what they choose to do once they’re there.
For our next gathering, we’re honoured to welcome His Excellency the Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM, Governor of Western Australia.
Beyond the ceremony of the vice-regal office, we’ll explore the Governor’s vital role in the administration of the State - including reflections on the historic apology for the Pinjarra Massacre, and his active advocacy for the community sector, from major institutions to grassroots initiatives like the IT upcycling project Sam’s Spares.
Joining the conversation is Sophie Coffin - a proud Palyku and Ngangumarta woman and an emerging leader in the legal profession. Sophie is a solicitor and former Associate to Chief Justice Quinlan, whose justice advocacy has included supporting landmark moments of institutional accountability, including the WA Police apology to Aboriginal people in 2018, alongside the Commissioner for Police (as the Governor then was).
Expect big reflections, generosity of spirit, and ideas for the future informed by better understanding of history.
