The Lawson Common Room: where sharp minds and generous spirits meet—part fireside chat, part professional detour. Each month, we explore the many ways people find themselves in the law… and what they choose to do once they’re there.
This month, host Nicholas van Hattem is joined by Kate Chaney MP and Kim Lendich SC.
Kate has been the Independent Member for Curtin since 2022. Her career spans law, strategy consulting, and community services. As a lawyer, she advised on commercial agreements and at Redfern Legal Centre she supported individuals on credit and debt matters.
Kate has experience working with the deep disadvantages experienced by some and the challenges in building support systems to reduce those disadvantages.
Kim was appointed senior counsel in 2020, in recognition of her leadership and eminence in commercial, consumer law and torts litigation. She is also the first woman to chair Francis Burt Chambers in its 61-year history.
Expect reflections on their experience, entering and leading institutions shaped by tradition, while reimagining how those spaces might develop to better serve the community into the future.
