This October, we explore music as language — what it says and how to express it. Host Nicholas van Hattem is joined by two very special guests with distinct perspectives: Abbe May and the Hon Justice Darren Jackson.
Abbe May is a proper rock star, proud cat mum, and “Perth’s 22nd most powerful lesbian”. Abbe is famous for chart heights, a highly sensual Like a Version cover, and high stages, like the epic rooftop Thunderstuck guitar solo for the 2021 Grand Final. Abbe’s enjoyed some highs but also shared vulnerably about some lows, and the importance of integrity and being true to yourself.
Justice Darren Jackson was a leader of the independent bar prior to his Honour’s appointment to the Federal Court in 2019. He’s renowned for his legal excellence. Fewer people know he’s also a huge music fan. He recently presented a seminar on the Katie Perry case, but if rumours are to be believed, he has some more independent music credentials and is no stranger to the RTR DJ booth.
A performer and an advocate. Together, they’ll get into preparation, nerves, the powerful moment when it is your turn to be heard, and how to be at your best when the room falls quiet and everyone is listening.
