We have a special showing (and opportunity!) for members in December, as PICA brings us a selection of the works made by Gian Manik [aka Lawson Flats beloved inaugural artist] that were painted for the 2024 PICA Editions commission.
Gian was selected as this year’s esteemed PICA Editions artist and for this commission, he created ‘Third Swamp’ - a large landscape painting made up of 30 panels (40cm x 50cm each).
* Some of you may have joined us in the Studio earlier in the year when we enjoyed hearing Gian in a ‘Curator Conversation’ with Hannah Matthews, PICA’s Director, about his career, including the creation of this commission.
In Third Swamp Gian interprets the Hyde Park/ Boodjamooling site, mapping its cultural significance and the passing of time through the introduction and removal of vegetation. The work also responds to the fallout caused by the arrival of the short hole borer, and the felling of over 100 introduced and established trees in Hyde Park.⠀
In December, we’ll be hanging TEN of these unique PICA editions paintings for Members to view - and in excellent Christmas-gift-buying timing - they will be available to purchase (what a wonderful way to grow your art collection!). All sale proceeds contribute to PICA’s forward programming AND your investment offers direct support to Western Australian arts and artists. Win win win.
In even better news - Lawson Flats members will be offered the industry price for these works (usually reserved for galleries and institutions), which is $1,000 below general public pricing. V tempting!
