Introducing: The Lawson Common Room
A new series hosted by Nicholas van Hattem—barrister, founder of The Piddington Society, and the kind of person who knows that good conversation starts with good company.
Nicholas invites sharp minds and generous spirits to explore the many ways people find themselves working in the law—and what they choose to do with it once they’re there.
For our first gathering, we’re joined by two brilliant guests:
The Hon. Robert French AO who—long before becoming Chief Justice of Australia—helped establish the Aboriginal Legal Service in WA.
And Sophie Coffin, solicitor, advocate, and proud Palyku and Ngangumarta woman, whose work spans sectors and includes time as Associate to Chief Justice Quinlan.
Together, they’ll reflect on the unexpected turns a legal career can take, the work of pushing for justice, and how we all find (and re-find) our way in the world.
Expect big ideas, generous stories, and the kind of questions that don’t always have easy answers. Then we’ll roll into Luis' to keep the conversation going—drink in hand, of course.
