Presented by Tura Artistic Director & LF Member Tos Mahoney
An afternoon of music, language and connection.
We’re pleased to welcome Dr Gillian Howell for a special Salon conversation exploring the creative processes and community partnerships behind Buga Yanu Junba - a three-year collaboration with Baya Gawiy Early Childhood Centre in Fitzroy Crossing.
Dr Gillian’s work sits at the intersection of music, peacebuilding and place. Through long-term, community-led partnerships, she has shaped Sound FX, Tura’s decade-long program in the Fitzroy Valley - a project grounded in language revitalisation, cultural strength and self-determination.
Buga Yanu Junba culminated in a published songbook with the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and a Tura-produced album in 2025 - but its real legacy lies in the relationships behind it. In this conversation, Dr Gillian, joined by Tura Artistic Director Tos Mahoney, will reflect on the journey so far and speak to the next chapter: the Kimberley Song Muster.
Join us for a thoughtful discussion on how music can affirm identity, carry culture and build connection in communities navigating trauma and change.
