Western Australia is home to some of the world’s most unique and elusive reptiles—many of which have only recently been discovered. But how do scientists uncover new species, and what stories do these creatures tell about our landscapes, ecosystems, and history?
Join Dr Paul Doughty, Curator of Herpetology at the WA Museum, as he takes us on a journey through the discovery of WA’s reptiles—from the early explorations of Charles Darwin to the cutting-edge genetic techniques shaping research today.
With a career spanning three decades across North America and Australia, Paul has described countless new species of geckos and frogs and is ranked among the top reptile taxonomists worldwide. His work with BushBlitz, DBCA, and leading molecular research labs continues to uncover hidden biodiversity in WA’s vast landscapes.
Expect fascinating discoveries, incredible reptile stories, and a deep dive into the rich ecological world of WA’s scaly residents.
