This event has ended.
Lawson Flats is pleased to present the launch of Made From Stone, a new publication by artist and designer Tim Meakins.
Developed over a two-month studio period between April and June 2026, the book brings together technical drawings, VR sketches, 3D renders and writing inspired by goblins, fairytales, dungeons, houses, bugs, fruit, personal anecdotes and beyond. Part sketchbook, part studio journal, it captures ideas as they emerge — restless, playful and still in motion
To mark the launch, Meakins' prints and works from the publication will take over the Lobby walls and spill into the Lounges, transforming Lawson Flats into an extension of the book itself.
Join us from 5pm to celebrate the launch, meet the artist and purchase a signed copy.
Open to all, RSVP essential for non-members. Pop up bar and music from Josh Hills 'til 8pm.

About the Book
Made From Stone is a new publication by artist and designer Tim Meakins. A mix of drawings, renders and words inspired by goblins, fairytales, dungeons, houses, bugs, fruits, personal anecdotes, and beyond. Developed over a two-month studio period from 20 April to 20 June 2026, the book brings together technical drawings, VR sketches, and 3D renders, capturing a snapshot of ideas being made and explored in the moment. Published in a limited edition of 100, the 224-page volume features new writing by Samuel Beilby and offers a snapshot of an intensely productive period in the artist's practice.
"For the longest time, Tim Meakins practice has been scored by the speed at which he produces, set against the visual density that is typical of his exhibition outcomes. The result is a certain rhythmic dynamism that pitches an upbeat, lightweight, and protean versatility against a heavy, laborious, and mechanistic sculptural production. Made From Stone, like his first publication, Large Amounts of Failure (2019), is both a reflection and an outcome of this undulating tempo at which Tim works. " - Samuel Beilby
About the Artist
Tim Meakins (1993) is an Artist and Designer from Boorloo (Perth), currently based in the Pilbara, Western Australia. Working across sculpture, painting, print, animation and publishing, he employs a visual grammar drawn from the history (and present) of computer graphics/operating systems and cartoons to create intensely energetic propositions around the ever-mutating forms, limits, plasticity, optical register and possibilities of digital and analogue states-of-being.
Tim’s graphic design background feeds directly into visual investigations of human connection and inner dialogues; exploring how these construct relations to our physical reality and serve as points of departure for rearticulating how we think of the human body, nonhuman companions, and inanimate objects. By reworking common materials and cultural motifs, be it characters from Arthurian folklore, playground materials, industrial machinery, or gym equipment, Tim’s projects present micro-worlds that pull disparate objects and ideas into relation of each other. In doing so, Tim’s outcomes reinterpret the real world in playful and humorous ways that shift how familiar forms are understood.
A core part of his practice is the active exchange between digital tools and physical fabrication. He works with Virtual Reality drawing, 3D modelling, technical drafting, and animation, then brings these forms into the physical world through 3D printing and industrial construction. This movement between the hand and the machine shapes investigations into identity, humour, failure, and physicality.
